GVC Jazz
GVC Jazz is comprised of community high school treble voices selected by the director. GVC Jazz performs a cappella vocal selections in a variety of styles: barbershop, jazz, sacred, spirituals, madrigals, pop, and decades. This class offers small ensemble singing, solo opportunities, aural training, sight reading, and blending opportunities. Singers will learn to be independent musicians with improved sight-reading skills and the ability to confidently sing a vocal part in a small group or alone. Along with rehearsals, GVC Jazz performs at the following events during Fall semester: Safford’s Harvest Festival, Gila Valley Chorale’s Christmas Concert, community Christmas caroling, and other opportunities as they arise. GVC Jazz will perform at the following events during Spring semester: Gila Valley Interfaith Concert, EAC’s Spring Sing Community Performance, Gila Valley Chorale’s May Concert, and other opportunities as they arise. Focus is given to community outreach and performance events.
Tuition
• $160 per semester
• Tuition is due August 8th at the first rehearsal in the form of cash or Venmo
Rehearsals
• Rehearsals are held every Tuesday evening from 7:00-8:30 PM in the director’s home.
• Participants must substantively participate in rehearsals each week. This is a small ensemble and a team effort. If you are absent, a vital vocal part is missing which makes it difficult to adequately learn the music and achieve a cohesive blend. When an absence is unavoidable (due to sickness, or other unforeseen circumstances) please notify the instructor in advance via phone.
Audition
• Entrance dependent on open spots each semester
• Audition includes sight reading, tonal memory, range check, prepared vocal solo, and interview
• Please contact Jenny Keith if interested in joining at (928) 432-0025 OR gvcjazz@gmail.com
